{Review} It’s Time to Move It Move It at Madagascar LIVE!

We’ve always loved the highly successful DreamWorks’ Madagascar animated blockbuster movie series and were really excited that the show was coming to Singapore live onstage.

Madagascar LIVE! comes to the Marina Bay Sands, MasterCard Theatres for a limited run, starting today until Sunday, 24 April 2016. Book your tickets fast at Marina Bay Sands Ticketing Website or SISTIC .

Madagascar LIVE!

The excited kiddos happy for the timely treat to catch Madagascar LIVE!

Quite frankly, I was as excited as the kiddos about the show and couldn’t wait till 6pm today for the Opening Night of Madagascar Live! This was possibly the best mid-term mid-week treat ever for Wey, whose been having so many tests every week since Term 2 started!

Madagascar LIVE!

Thumbs up glee inside the MasterCard Theatres 🙂

So everyone was ready to “Move It Move It!” and meet their favourite Madagascar characters, Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria.

And meet them we did, as the brightly lit curtains were lifted without delay, we were transported to the famed New York City’s Central Park Zoo. The stage was colourful and the costumes were superb! Wey let out a squeal of delight when Gloria appeared, can you guess why??? … haha!

Madagascar LIVE!

Meet BFFs Marty, Gloria, Melman and Alex of the NYC Central Park Zoo!

Just like in the movie, Marty is celebrating his 10th birthday and feeling that he needs to see the rest of the world and explore the wide open spaces. He escapes from the Zoo after getting ‘tips’ from the notorious Penguins who are also plotting to escape.

Madagascar LIVE!

Everyone’s favourite scheming Penguins! Can you spot Skipper? haha

And so, the wild adventure is set in motion as Marty’s Best Friends Forever ~ Alex, Gloria and Melman, also escape in order to rescue him!

It’s no wonder how the beautiful story of true friendship between Alex and his best mate Marty continues to be ever popular even after 11 years!

Madagascar LIVE!

Best Friends Forever? Will nature finally bring on the WILD in them?

The young audience were totally captivated by the colourful characters and their dancing. They jived to the lively songs as the familiar story of Madagascar unfolded onstage. And then all too soon, the 20 minute interval came. Perhaps it was necessary for stage preparations but the kids didn’t seem to mind as they occupied themselves with picking confetti (haha… when you’re young anything can be fun, really!) and eagerly awaited Part 2.

I really enjoyed watching King Julien on stage. He was every bit the charismatic self-proclaimed Lord of the Lemurs from the movie, but live! He engaged the audience with eye-contact and drew giggles from both Wey and R.

Introducing the great one and only King Julien, Lord of the Lemurs!

Hatching the plan to use Alex against the dreaded Foosa!

Madagascar LIVE!

Beware the Fossa!!

And of course who can forget the wonderful trademark song led by King Julien… yup! “I want to Move it Move It!” Wey started rocking and dancing at his seat the moment the familiar song came on.

Hahha… this guy was enjoying himself alright! 😛 The kids went wild and danced as he sang and got the audience to sing and dance along as well! I was ready to jump out of my seat and dance too haha!

I like that the production follows the movie closely with no surprises or changes. Afterall, it’s a time-loved familiar story that everyone knows so well. Expect to see funny scenes like when Marty gets bitten on the butt by Alex because he is just so hungry and, yes Marty looks like steak to him! (Surprised? Shocked?? haha nah… but we love it anyway!)

Ouch!! What are you doing Alex!!! (haha)

Special mention must be made of how the cast worked the audience expertly and got great audience participation throughout the show. Even at the very last end, when everyone was encourage to just let go and have fun, dancing to the famous “I want to Move It Move It” The young ones had a ball of a time, running forward towards the stage and really dancing and having fun! 🙂

The night flew by quickly even though the show was 121 minutes long (including the 20min interval). We got to “Move-it Move-it” with the fantastic cast with the special Meet and Greet session after the show. Loved it! I always treasure that extra keepsake memento from an unforgettable theatre night with Wey.

Madagascar LIVE!

Growing up fast and happy… these 3 very blessed little kids 🙂

It was a wonderfully fun night out and the kids had a great mid-term, mid-week treat that will hopefully last them till the end of term haha… 🙂
