{Review + Giveaway} Fun On The Run Car Table Bag by Ministry of Tots

My family zips around in our car a lot.  Due to our schedule, we shuttle between West and North on an almost daily basis.  I try to incorporate nap time for the kids into our afternoon car rides.  Thankfully, both Jiejie and Didi sleep very well during car rides, a trait of theirs since they were babies.

This is a almost daily sight in my car.

This is an almost daily sight in my car. >.<

However on days when it is not anywhere near nap time, I can go crazy with incessant bickering and noise from them two.  When the opportunity knocked for the review of the Fun-on-the-Run Car Table Bag, I took up the chance because I recalled Didi recently being naughty and he refused to sleep during nap time.  Instead, he finished up his kindergarten’s homework in all sorts of position in the car while we waited for my hubby to knock off at his office carpark.

The kids were excited when they received the bags and when I told them it’s a Fun-on-the-Run bag by Ministry of Tots, they immediately knew what it is meant for.  They set to work without hesitation and quickly filled up their bag with goodies.

Jiejie made hers a treasure trove of mainly books and word search activity, together with a soft toy (for nap time, she said) and pencils.

Within few minutes, she’s done and ready for the next day!

As for Didi, he set off with the same task after receiving some strict rules from me.  Actually there was only one – NO LEGO ALLOWED.  Initially, I thought that there could be no way for Didi to close his bag with so many things stuffed into it.  To my surprise, it zipped up nicely without any resistance.  The Nikon camera is his personal camera – it’s kids resistant (shock proof and water proof) and he’s been taking wonderful photos with it.

Fun-on-the-Run Car Table Bag comes in only one colour combination right now.  In order to differentiate their belongings, I labelled them with name labels from Stickerkid which we reviewed in another post.  Well known for their fast colours and durability, Stickerkid name labels last for long long time and I’m really glad to apply onto their bags here.

Next day after school, they look to be operationally ready for an afternoon at my sister’s house.

Once in the house, they enthusiastically took out their favourite things for Ah Yi Mummy to see!

Aside from having fun while on the go, the bag also acts as a sturdy car table bag for light entertainment during a car ride.  It hangs nicely from the head rest of the front seats.  With adjustable straps, it is also easy to customise the “table” height for each child.  The “table” comes with a hard backing so that it acts as a “tabletop”.  Here is Jiejie doing her word search, her current craze with the book following her everywhere.

And the ever-hungry bookworm never go anywhere without one or two books to accompany her as well.  At her age, she doesn’t need much toys or entertainment, just some reading and doodling materials.

The bag is pretty light weight for children to carry around, so long as they don’t overload it with too much things.  Instead of a haversack, this slim sling bag replaces the back pack with the convenience of opening up for use while travelling.  As long as there is somewhere to hang up the bag so that the top does not collapse when in use, the bag is perfect as a “tabletop”.

On another note, I feel that the strap design is not well executed.  If the bag is loaded heavily with stuffs, there will be a tendency to pull open the zip and having it spoiled totally.  Since it is not meant for heavy objects, do plan your contents well so that the bag can be more lasting.  For families with two kids like mine, I actually made a request for Didi to carry colour pencils in his bag and Jiejie to have glitter pens in hers so that there are no duplicates and they can always share around.  Helps in cutting down excess weight! 🙂

Overall, this is a pretty useful bag to have in the family with small children.  I hope there is more colour selection though!
