It’s the BIG School Holidays in 2015!

The school year is finally coming to a close!  After spending about 3.5 hrs/day, 17.5 hrs/week, 70 hrs/month or 700 hrs/10 months on the road using mixed transport system, I’m finally done with the year.  Oh GOSH!  These figures are estimated to include walking, bus, MRT and my driving time just to fetch and pick up the kids during school day.  No, it is not tiring and travel time is not an issue.  #likereal

Well, I am more excited than the kids that the year end school holiday is almost immediately coming.  Life has been busy, real tired but also at the same time fulfilling that I get to watch the kids grow up.  Before they grow up too fast, let’s check out what fun activities are in store for this year end holiday.

Gardens by the Bay

Christmas Toyland Floral Display at Flower Dome | Christmas Wonderland Garden Trail

Singapore’s biggest Yuletide fair, Christmas Wonderland, returns to Gardens by the Bay.  Look out for an enchanting Christmas Toyland Floral Display and dazzling Luminarie lights sculptures.  At the same time, be sure to check out the The Future of Us, an exhibition showcasing Singapore’s future to come.

Venture into the North Pole and explore a magical wonderland where toy soldiers march alongside roaming reindeers, and teddy bears man a sleigh station – all amidst yuletide floral favourites like the poinsettia, Christmas rose, winter heather and holly!  Towering over the enchanting floral display is the centerpiece of Christmas Toyland – an 11-metre-tall Christmas Pyramid decked with toys.  This multi-tiered traditional German wooden carousel will transform into a ‘live’ stage, hosting a series of festive performances for the very first time in the Flower Field.  “Christmas Toyland” is the final chapter in Gardens by the Bay’s storytelling journey in 2015.  This enchanting series of floral displays for the year will draw visitors into the magical world of folklore, legends, fairy tales and nursery rhymes as told through the language of plants.

Date : 21 November 2015 to 5 January 2016 (Daily 9am – 9pm)
Location: Flower Dome and Gardens by the Bay

Admission Charges : Access to the Christmas Wonderland @ Gardens Trail is complimentary to the public, while admission charges into the Christmas Toyland Floral Display @ Flower Dome apply.

Festive Performances

For the first time ever, the Flower Field will play host to a series of festive performances, set within a 11-metre-tall Christmas Pyramid. Enjoy musical favourites as you stroll through the festive “Christmas Toyland” Floral Display.  Besides these performances, join in the storytelling sessions by Players Theatre and ventriloquist acts around the Flower Dome. Visit The Last Remaining Kampong in Singapore ~ Kampong Buangkok

This has remained on my bucket list for an outing with the kids for more than a year.  Something would always excuse us from going, like haze or Dengue outbreak.  Perhaps this long holiday, there can be a chance to drop by for the kids to experience the real kampong life with chickens roaming freely and banana trees growing in the backyard of wooden houses.

How to go

Kampong Buangkok is located off Gerald Drive which is located off Yio Chu Kang Road.  The closest bus stop is along Yio Chu Kang Road, opposite Church of St. Vincent De Paul.  Bus Nos 70, 103 and 854 will service this bus stop.  There is a Shell Petrol Station nearby.  See map for details.

Discover A Hidden Gem in the Neighbourhood ~ Jalan Seleseh

Following a visit to Kampong Buangkok, have lunch at the Seletar Corner coffee shop at Jalan Seleseh.  Have your lunch at the Wanton Mee and Roti Prata stalls, spend the afternoon at the playground (Jalan Selaseh Park), have high-tea and gourmet ice cream at Bing Qi Lin and end the day with fulfilling local delights at the Western Food and Zi Char stall a try before you leave!   The quaint neighbourhood is about 1 bus stop away from Kampong Buangkok.  Read all about our recommendations here!

Organised by Parents World Singapore, this is a walk I would highly encourage all mummies-to-be to go for.  I was working on golf course construction project when I was pregnant with Jiejie.  Back then, I walked kilometres and kilometres on the greens on a daily basis.  All she took was just 3.5hrs to pop out.  Didi being the second child, took about 2hrs to deliver.  Yes, you have heard that walking helps with birth delivery and it is really true.
