{Review} Alluring Mooncake Treasures @ Mandarin Orchard Singapore

Still hot on our Mid Autumn Festival Mooncake Fever trail of mooncakes from hotels, we are hopping over to Mandarin Orchard Singapore’s exquisite offerings!

Well termed as Mooncake Treasures, Mandarin Orchard Singapore’s mooncakes truly celebrate the tradition of good taste. And will you not fall in love with this beautifully custom-designed gold-latticed gift boxes?

Mandarin Orchard Singapore

My heart leaped a little when I saw this pretty grand looking red box!

Such a perfect presentation for gifting to family, friends and business associates. I do prefer the Red box over the Gold Beige one but it is not interchangeable even by request, take note. 😦 The Red box is for Baked Mooncakes while the Gold Beige one is for Snow Skin Mooncakes.

Sitting pretty in the Gold Beige Box

Always my favourite kind of mooncake is the Snow Skin mooncake! Mandarin’s Snow Skin is delicate and soft, fragrant and inviting, done to perfection (unlike some others which are sticky and chewy), love it!

  • Mini Snow Skin Yam and Yam Paste (迷你冰皮芋头月饼)
  • Mini Snow Skin Red Wine Cranberry Paste and Yuzu Lemongrass (迷你冰皮红酒蔓越莓与柚子香茅月饼)
  • Mini Snow Skin Green Tea Paste with Azuki Red Bean (迷你冰皮绿茶与日本红豆月饼).
  • Mini Snow Skin Lychee Martini and Chocolate (迷你冰皮荔枝马丁尼朱古力冰皮月饼),

Lovely snow skin jewels! How to resist! hahhaha

My top picks in order of preference for the snow skin flavours are the Lychee Martini and ChocolateYam and Yam Paste and the Green Tea Paste with Azuki Red Bean.

Take a look at the insides of the snow skin mooncakes in the photo below and you will know why I love these little treasures! I love my snow skin Mooncakes with these little jewels of chocolate truffles. So happy to know that Mandarin Orchard does snow skin mooncakes this way 🙂 Yay! haha…

Tiny jewel balls of yummilicious fillings! Love Love Love!

The Lychee Martini and Chocolate is everyone’s all time favourite it seems and has made a come back by popular demand. I simply adore the smooth creamy filling with the hint of Martini encased in the luscious tiny jewel ball of white chocolate! Ooolahlah! Can I say that again?!!

For yam lovers, I’m also very sure you will fall in love with the  Yam and Yam Paste flavour because even for someone like me who rarely likes yam, I super liked it! haha… It was a unique taste that wasn’t overly sweet but had the distinct yummy taste of yam, cool creation!

This year’s new introduction is the Mini Snow Skin Red Wine Cranberry Paste and Yuzu Lemongrass. It’s quite a perk-me-up taste and leaves a rather strong after taste. The red wine cranberry paste was quite jam-like and will probably woo those with a sweeter tooth.

Traditional Baked Mooncakes

Mandarin Orchard offers traditional old time favourites for their Traditional Baked Mooncakes and they have kept that same traditional recipe so that loyal fans will not miss anything. What’s great to know is that there is also a Low Sugar version for the health conscious as well!!

  • Mixed Nuts and Jamón Ibérico  (伊比利亞火腿五仁月饼 )
  • Double Yolk and White Lotus Paste  (双黄白莲蓉月饼)
  • Single Yolk and White Lotus Paste  (单黄白莲蓉月饼)
  • Azuki Red Bean Paste and Pine Nuts (日本红豆沙松子月饼)
  • Macademia Nuts with Low Sugar White Lotus Paste (低糖夏果白莲蓉)

L-R Clockwise : Macademia Nuts with Low Sugar White Lotus Paste, Mixed Nuts and Jamón Ibérico, Double Yolk and White Lotus Paste, Azuki Red Bean Paste and Pine Nuts

I used to think Baked Mooncakes with Mixed Nut and Jamón Ibérico were for my grandma’s generation and never really dared to try it or cared for it. I was pretty surprised when I tried Mandarin’s and loved it! LOL! The hubs was surprised that he liked it too. Mandarin’s version is not as sweet as the ones my grandma used to eat and the nuts are really yummy and fragrant too!

It’s great that Mandarin’s Traditional Mooncakes are not too sweet although we did find the Azuki Red Bean Paste and Pine Nuts version a tad dry, the other varieties we tried were thumbs up! I especially liked the low sugar version with Macademia Nuts (although more nuts would have been better! haha) since I’ve been putting on a lot of weight recently! So it was a guiltless indulgence for me 🙂 …
