We got snapping away when we received an invite to the Alive Museum at Suntec City in March.
Alive Museum is a new concept art museum where two dimensional exhibits are brought ALIVE with 3D painting, shading, and drawing techniques thereby creating visual illusions.
Sprawling over 10,000 sq ft, more than 80 artwork exhibits are brought ALIVE with 3D painting, shading and drawing techniques that create visual illusions. Using state-of-the-art media and digital technologies, viewers can experience the virtual world that is beyond limitation of time and space. Object art allows you to experience magical ideas in reality by touching and watching objects.
Tired of the “see but don’t touch” rule at the usual museums? A quirky new attraction that opened last year in 2014 in Suntec City Mall, Alive Museum promises to be a fun and unique treat for the whole family, locals and tourists alike.
Not only can you touch and feel the exhibits at Alive Museum Singapore, you can also hop into the frame and become a part of the art masterpieces that play on optical illusions.
Due to our clashing schedules, we decided to go on separate occasions to explore this photographic playground.
Audrey’s family visited the Alive Museum on a Saturday afternoon and was overwhelmed with crowd.
Here are a few of Audrey’s favourite scenes at the Museum…
1) The Love Boat?
We totally enjoyed this scene because of the endless possibilities with it. The space around it was great too allowing for great photos!
2) Giraffe in my Italian Backyard?
Every photo with this scene turned out to be a beautiful keepsake! So don’t miss this shot!
3) Rainforest Voyage?
Lovely photo scene except for the constant glare spots at almost every angle. Also dislike the obstructing lighting that can be seen on top, but otherwise, it was a fun spot to take pictures.
4) Ride the Rapids
This scene was so fun to just pretend play. We loved the colour and would you believe it, the oar is fixed so you don’t have to do anything but hold on to it and act macho riding the rapids.
All of Audrey’s photographs in this post were taken with the IPhone 6 plus. We found that the lighting almost quite often caused glare spots on most photographs and coupled with the crowd, it was rather difficult (frustrating) to take some shots due to the very tight photo angle.
This ancient swordsman scene was really more challenging than we thought. It took us many shots to sit correctly in order to capture this frame. haha and honestly, it was rather tiring to try to lift those legs up and pretend you are doing a gongfu kick while flying up Glad that the picture turned out nicely ❤
And we’re sure you know what to do with the hubs when he is naughty?? LOL!
Lots of opportunity to ‘Act Cute’ at Alive Museum definitely…
Shirley’s family visited on a Monday evening, where the crowd was expected to be relatively a lot fewer.
Indeed, with the lesser visitors, it was easier to navigate and take our time to compose or to try and try until we got the right pose. Shirley’s photographs were all taken with her Samsung Note 3.
This is a shot of Shirley’s parents having their share of fun – their very first 3-D experience.
If you love chocolate ice cream, do remember to ‘drop’ by Alive Museum for your fresh chocolaty icy cold cone! 😛 Here is R waiting for his ice cream >.< Do you want to have a serving too?? hahaa!
Forever a baby in Shirley’s eyes.
Object Art are Sculptures and installations that challenge our senses. Do you believe what you see?
Touch and be part of the sculpture pieces for an immersive experience and picture stories that will astound your friends.
To help create head-turning pictures and wonderful memories, there are Pose Point and Photo Point icons at each art exhibit from where visitors can pose or press click to achieve the best and most realistic-looking pictures.
Now aren’t you glad that this is just an illusion! Can’t imagine ourselves trying to escape from a room full of zombies! LOL!
On top of the above, about 30% of the collections are refreshed every year and special exhibits are held during major holiday seasons such as Christmas and Chinese New Year.
We both had lots of fun at the ALIVE Museum despite the differing crowd size.
While it is true that the more crowded the museum is, the tighter the photo angle, Audrey still managed to take many wonderful shots. In any case, Shirley would advise to enter the museum on a weekday in the late afternoon and be ready for about 1.5 – 2 hrs of fun trying out different angles and facial expressions – all without much crowd to disturb or hang around your photo spot as if hurrying you along.
It would also help to bring along a camera or phone camera that has a bigger aperture for lower lighting indoor environment. Audrey’s iPhone 6 did a wonderful job with the lower lighting condition within Alive Museum. However, Shirley’s Samsung Note 3 is famous for lousy and blurry images in a similar setting.
If you have a camera with aperture setting, do try to set it to A-mode (Aperture Priority) with the biggest aperture (such as f/2.8 or greater). This allows you to make the most of the lower light levels. Not only that, you will also be able to achieve a shallower depth of field that will help your subjects stand out from cluttered backgrounds.
