Did you know that May the 4th is Star Wars Day? Well, I had no idea until today! Without much research, I am guessing that it is simply because “May the 4th” sounds somewhat like the popular Star Wars phrase “May the Force Be With You!”
Whilst browsing at Books Kinokuniya yesterday during its Free Comics Books Day, we heard that there was a Celebration at the Force at Suntec City from 3- 4 May 2015. So we made our way there today to join in the fun since the 2 boys in the family (the hubs and Wey) cannot seem to get enough of Star Wars.
To our delight, it was really a Star Wars party, a convergence of die-hard Star Wars fans in Singapore!
People were dressed as their favourite Star Wars characters and were happily allowing fans to take photos and pose with them.
Wey was all excited seeing so many people dressed up! I mean, who wouldn’t be excited! I got out my camera phone and snapped away! This one is probably my favourite shot of the day… a lucky moment to get both a Rebel Pilot and Obi Wan Kenobi together, plus some playacting as well! hahah! Super Yay!
Take a look at this fan dressed as Obi Wan Kenobi. He told us that his father made the costume for him and improvised with whatever they could find! Way to go Daddy Power!
And here we have a photo opportunity with Anakin Skywalker! Can you tell the difference in costumes? If you are a Star Wars fan, you would be able to 🙂 I was scratching my head at times but Wey could tell me exactly who was who!
We first saw these Clone Troopers at the Chingay Parade and now they were up close and personal and we could even get photographs with them! Wow! See all the different types of Clone Troopers? Totally made the little one’s day and I know the hubs was silently thrilled! hahaha!
It was really fun mingling with the fans even though it was very crowded! Perhaps the cutest dressed up fans were these 2 little kiddos! Don’t you agree that they are adorable! Little Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia!
I personally loved the photograph exhibition and snapped some of the really cute ones! In all the excitement I forgot to take note of the facebook site these belonged to! Grrrhh!!
Look at these cool Darth Vader heads all decorated up… much like the Asian Elephant Clay Art pieces?
Little Wey was especially intrigued with a booth offering to customise Light Sabres! He didn’t want toleave that booth but there was no way Mummy was going to indulge that desire! hahha! Maybe next time kiddo! 😛
Isn’t it amazing that George Lucas succeeded in creating a franchise that has survived generations whilst adding on new fans even now. Star Wars a franchise created during my childhood era has now captured the imagination of my little boy. Ever since watching his first Star Wars movie (Episode 1) last year, Wey devoured every single Episode from 1-6 with the hunger of any young Star Wars convert! I have since also improved my knowledge about Star Wars to catch up and stay relevant (hahaha) with the boys at home! oops!
Wey cannot wait for Dec 18 to come when Episode 7 will be released! I know he is not alone!! My Star Wars crazed son, has turned from loving the colour blue to now only wanting things in green…. why? Because the Jedi Master holds a green Light Sabre while the blue Light Sabres are only for younglings or Padawans (apprentice)…. Sigh!
Next year, I promise I will be more prepared for Star Wars Day and perhaps even make a trip down to LEGOLAND Malaysia. We missed the wonderful Star Wars activities there this time, not knowing better, but we had equally good fun soaking in the love at Suntec yesterday!
So here’s wishing all fans a Happy Star Wars Day today!
